Wenzhou Medical University (WMU) rooted from Zhejiang Medical School in 1912, is a key institution of higher learning under the direct administration of Zhejiang Provincial Government. Now the university has become a main base for cultivating the medical talents in Zhejiang province. It is located in Wenzhou, an opening southeast coastal city with 40-minutes flight from metropolitan Shanghai. Wenzhou is a place where you can enjoy pleasant climate, charming scenery and exciting life.


Wenzhou Medical University has three campus, located respectively at Xueyuan Road, Xiushan and Chashan, covering an area of about 800,000 meter square with a building floor of 180,000 m2. The university library has a collection of 1280,000 books and 1100 categories of periodicals in foreign languages. It has over 24850 full-time students and more than 9000 professional staff committed to strengthening discipline construction and research work. It also has 17 affiliated hospitals with about 12000 beds. Wenzhou Medical University obtained the qualification of recruiting overseas students in 1993. It has 46 teaching hospitals for clinical internships. 15 centers of Laboratory, among them 3 are Key Laboratories of Ministerial level.

Wenzhou Medical University offers 26 five year Bachelor's degree programs, a 7-year program leading to Master's degree, 1 joint doctorate program and 3 doctorate programs. From 2006, Wenzhou Medical University was authorized to confer doctorate degrees in Ophthalmology, Surgery and Gynecology. Wenzhou Medical University is one of the first institutions authorized by the State Council to confer Master's degree. It offers 15 Master's degrees now in Ophthalmology & Optometry, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Pharmacology, Gynecology & Obstetrics, Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics, Anesthesia, Pathology and Physiology, Integration of Traditional Chinese Medicine & West Medicine, etc. The Program of Ophthalmology & Optometry is the first one established in China to train optometric professionals with medical background. Given their distinguished achievements in the optometric development, Ministry of Public Health of China based its first and only National Center of Optometry Research in WMU. A Sino-U.S. joint program for Doctorate of Optometry is now under way.

In recent years WMU has been very active in academic exchanges and friendly visits with other countries and regions. Intercollegiate relationships have been established with New England College of Optometry U.S.A., Pacific University U.S.A., University of Queensland Australia, Burapha University in Thailand, Miyazaki Medical University Japan, Karl-Franzens University Graz Austria, Sun Yat- Sen Medical University Taiwan, etc. Since 1999, WMC was authorized to enroll and open MBBS English medium program for International students. Currently, there are 1020 international students from more than 30 different countries; particularly 180 students from Tamil Nadu, India are studying MBBS in English Medium.

The university provides in-campus hostel to the international students. Two persons share a room with air conditioner, attached bathroom, color TV, telephone, bed with required amenities and furniture, free hot drinking-water, water heater, refrigerator, internet access, public laundry and kitchen. Students are required to pay the electricity, water and internet they used. The university provides separate hostel facilities for boys and girls. Many food courts, university canteens are also available in the campus.


MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) - 5 years plus one year internship. WMU is recognized by WHO, IMED, FAIMER and the graduates of MBBS program are eligible to take the Medical Licensing Examinations held by the medical councils in different countries such as MCI, USMLE, PMDC, HPCSA, SCHS etc.


MBBS: An applicant who is (a) minimum a higher secondary school education 10,+2 in PCB with good health and without criminal record. (b) Applicants must have passed higher secondary 10, +2 or equivalent. (c) minimum 60% marks in science subjects (PCB): Physics, Chemistry, Biology (d) Among all the subjects, English Language is as a compulsory one and the level is very good in Oral and Written . (e) Age should be minimum17 years old at the time of admission or will complete this age on 30th of December of the year of his/her admission.


The recommended flight is transit from Shanghai to Wenzhou,( around 40 minutes),or transit from Beijing to Wenzhou (around1.30 hours), or transit from Guangzhou to Wenzhou (around 1 hour), or transit from Hong Kong to Wenzhou (around 1.30 hours).The Bullet train is also available from Hangzhou to Wenzhou ( around 3 hours). Students can choose the travel route according to their location.
